Enabling Global Trade

The emergence of intermodal containers had a fundamental impact on global trade and supply chain management. Currently, about 90% of non-bulk cargo worldwide is transported by container. The video below was produced by Vox shortly after the MSC Oscar, the world’s largest containership at the time, entered service in January 2015.

Now, the largest modern container ships can carry over 21,000 TEU (vs 19’224 TEU for the MSC Oscar) to rival crude oil tankers and bulk carriers as the largest commercial vessels on the oceans.
